This course will focus on introductory negotiation skills. You will participate in a variety of activities, such as scenario-driven discussions, case discussions, and student-to-student negotiation exercises. Upon completion of this course, you will have acquired theory and skills for practical applications in the prevention, management and resolution of conflict utilizing informal and formal utilization of negotiation processes, strategies and tactics in diverse arenas of conflict.

    Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

    • Accurately distinguish between interests and issues.
    • Assess conflict, diagnose the complexities, and determine a strategy.
    • Employ active listening, congruent message sending, mirroring, and silence to enhance the dispute resolution process.
    • Provide for others and achieve for themselves the basic ingredients for durable settlement agreements.
    • Identify the causes and resistance to proposals for settlement and reduce resistance points.
    • Develop creative and viable options.
