Virtually every public employee is creating and using public record. The avalanche of emails and electronic records continues. The number of public disclosure requests has increased with no signs of slowing down.
    In this course you will learn the survival skills necessary to deal with the onslaught of electronic information and how it affects business practices and disclosure issues.   This course teaches the basic fundamentals of records and information management and how an agency can protect itself and limit exposure.  You will learn how to use “avalanche control" over the volume of e-mails and other electronic records.

      Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

      • Identify roles and responsibilities in the creation and use of public records.
      • Understand the legal requirements for public records and public disclosure in Washington State.
      • Discern the difference between a public record and a non-record.
      • Know how to gain control of records and information and apply best practices.
