Position Description

Provide services to support Children Administration social workers; assist in case management of child abuse and neglect situations. Assist in gathering case information, relative searches and other client documentation. Supervise visits for children in out-of-home care, transport clients to medical and/or counseling appointments, participate in internal and multidisciplinary case staffings, attend training. Under close supervision, may interview children and families, depending on experience of the intern and program needs. May provide support services to foster parents, including limited recruitment and retention activities. Work with a diverse client population with multiple problems and issues. Use computer for information gathering and case documentation.

Graduate level internship may be able to take on a project to meet the needs of the office. May also be able to provide direct client service with the assistance and instruction of supervisor or staff. Will become an expert on relative search activities in order to develop family trees, develop contacts/ and relative support for children in foster care. Includes reading case files, calling relatives and using search engines to locate missing relatives. Goal is to increase the relative placement rate for the office and increase relative connections for children in foster care.

A specific case will be identified in each program area (CPS, CWS, adoption, FRS) that the intern can follow through the life of the case, attend court hearings, case staffings, read the case file, attend family team meetings, and assist the assigned social worker with case management activities.

Desirable Qualifications:

Pursuing Graduate degree and have completed one year of your studies. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Sensitivity to a variety of ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to be flexible and to work as a member of a team. Able to maintain confidentiality and deal with difficult, sensitive issues. Ability to speak, read and write Spanish is desirable, but not required. Some moderate travel is required.

· The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check.

· Must be outgoing, enthusiastic, motivated and proactive.

· Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be a team player.

· Good oral communication skills.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Able to work independently within guidelines and ask for direction when new situations arise.

· Able to work under tight deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously, with minimum supervision.
