Women's History Month provides an opportunity to examine concentration and underrepresentation of female employees. Our purpose is to enhance our recruiting efforts and, although you may be recruiting in job classes unique to your agency, we can assist each other when we know the situation in other job classes!

According to Census 2000 data, women constitute 46.3 percent of the Washington State Civilian Labor Force. Since the state government workforce is currently 52 percent female, the aggregate numbers are quite impressive. Examination of Officials and Administrators reveals that women are underrepresented in this category when compared to their overall workforce representation (45.9 vs. 52.3 percent). A closer look, however, reveals that only 39.6 percent of those in the state labor force that have the requisite skills for Officials and Administrators are women.
