Exempt Management Services Compensation
The compensation system for Exempt Management Service positions directly relates the salary to the work responsibilities, management skill requirements and accountability.

How are Exempt Management Service position salaries determined?
All positions are “broad banded” or grouped into broad salary range categories known as Exempt Management Service (EMS) Management Bands. Management bands are a series of management levels composed of a salary minimum and maximum dollar level. Placement in a band reflects the:
  • Nature of management
  • Decision-making environment and policy impact
  • Scope of management accountability
  • Control assigned to the position
Within the salary limits of the band the specific salary range for the employee and/or position is set.

Are there other types of compensation?
All state employees receive a comprehensive total compensation package.

If an agency has received performance management confirmation, they have the option of providing performance compensation, in the form of lump sum pay, for exceptional work performance and achievement.
